After: Return from a night out

In these pics, my hair dried after a night outside in the warm, humid Florida night. To me it seems more together (looks more "intentional") than the wet style.

People always ask me

..."how long have you been natural"?

When I tell them I've been rocking my natural black, kinky hair all my life, I feel like they expect me to know the secrets of the nappiverse (nappy universe). I don't.

I don't know what you should use in your hair, I barely know what to put in mine.

I've been through the pressing combs and the grease, the belief that oil adds moisture (it doesn't, water does but oil CAN lock it in), mini braids that equalled me spending way too much time trying to keep them neat. I have sported a straight up Caesar (aka buzz cut). I had a huge (vertically more than horizontally) afro that I didn't know how to care for. I've been wearing a short fro for the past 3 years out of pure laziness, I don't care about the fashion.

I am not a hair guru but I'm trying to find what works for me. What makes my hair happy? What will let me show a little personality through hairstyle without eating up my time?

I'm going to try to answer these questions for myself here.
